Tracking near record highs and severe threats on Tuesday
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy and mild with highs in the upper 60s to near 70.
TOMORROW: Breezy and hot with highs near 90. Severe storms developing ahead of a cold front by late afternoon into the evening. Damaging winds are the primary threat.
EXTENDED: A few spotty showers or storms are possible through about sunset, but any activity is currently pretty isolated. Tomorrow will quickly warm as morning temperatures stay right around the upper 60s to 70 degrees with afternoon highs soaring to near 90. Record highs are in the low 90s for tomorrow afternoon. A Weather Alert Day is in effect tomorrow afternoon through late evening as we'll be in the warm sector of a low pressure system that will be situated to our north, with the potential of a few strong storms from late afternoon through early evening. A higher threat for more organized severe storms will come by mid-evening ahead of a cold front, bringing the potential for 60-70 mph winds and a few tornadoes. Storms will exit to the southeast around midnight. A resurgence of showers and storms along the cold front is possible on Wednesday, so depending on where that front lands, parts of Mid-Missouri could see rain again. Thursday is looking dry and cooler in the upper 70s to about 80 area-wide, but then a train of disturbances begins on Friday with daily chances for storms through the weekend. Highs reach the lower 80s through Monday. Rain amounts through the next 5 days will add up to 1-2".Â
