Tracking a summer-like day ahead of storm chances tonight
TODAY: Tuesday is sunny and warm. With a 10-20 mph south wind this afternoon, temperatures reach into the low 80s.
TONIGHT: Storms approach from Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa after 7 p.m. They arrive with an isolated chance for hail and damaging winds, but are weakening upon arrival until they dissipate after midnight. These may not arrive in Columbia and Jefferson City until after 10 p.m.
EXTENDED: Starting warm, in the 60s, we'll warm back into the 80s with a chance for scattered showers and storms. As a warm front lifts, we'll be more squarely in the "warm sector" of this system which will take the focus of scattered precipitation further north through the day. This leaves us warm and generally drier overnight into Thursday morning, before a cold front brings more shower and storm chances late in the day on Thursday. Sever chances through all of this are fairly low, with best ingredients for severe weather centered west of us each day. From there, we'll have a drier day on Friday, after a chance at morning showers. Temperatures are cooler behind the cold front, as highs fall into the 70s Friday through early next week. Spotty chances for rain return over the weekend, with high uncertainty in timing or placement.
