Tracking an increasingly active pattern ahead
TODAY: Fog early this morning may stick around into the day break hours. With temperatures below freezing, be mindful of elevated surfaces as they may become slick in areas of fog development. Otherwise, today is quiet, with clouds sticking around for much of the day. Keep the sunglasses handy, as we'll likely see a few breaks in the clouds, allowing for some rays of sunshine getting to the ground. Highs should return to the upper 30s, in similar fashion to yesterday.
TONIGHT: Thursday night is just as cool, despite added high clouds moving in overnight.
EXTENDED: These clouds will precede a chance for a wintry mix that returns by Friday night, potentially as soon as Friday afternoon. Highs on Friday will likely remain in the 30s, with temperatures staying near to possibly above freezing. As light rain moves in it will likely mix with snow, but the combination of very light precipitation with mild temperatures will limit any impact. Temperatures will only warm into Saturday, so as precipitation continues through Saturday, the chances of any better wintry accumulation begins to wane. We likely escape this event without any accumulation, but in the event where temperatures are favorable for precipitation to fall as all snow overnight, we could get a dusting on grassy and elevated surfaces. Either way, travel impacts are not expected. We'll be seasonable and dry Sunday, with a high near 40. Similar conditions are expected Monday, but by Monday night, widespread rain will approach with a large low pressure system moving in. This is the much talked about "strong low" that is likely bring rain and snow to the Midwest. The question is where. We certainly have a chance for rain to mix over to snow at some point as this system lingers into Tuesday. When and if that happens, will become much more clear as we near this weekend, and so will it's impacts. Current trends have rain and snow in the forecast for mid-Missouri, but understand that the range of possibilities regarding impacts is wide and uncertain. Don't cancel plans, but have a contingency for any plans that could be impacted by wintry weather on Tuesday. Whatever this system deals us, it's likely on it's way out, leaving us drier by Wednesday.
