Tracking two rounds of rain Friday

TONIGHT: Thursday night remains quiet, with partly cloudy skies. Temperatures fall into the low 70s/upper 60s by sunrise.

TOMORROW: Friday is an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day. We will have a round of showers and storms early around sunrise, primarily north of I-70, but potentially bringing a few drops as far south as Jefferson City. This morning round is NOT expected to be severe. We may here plenty of thunder, but generally, these storms should be relatively weak. Strong storms arrive on our western doorstep around 6 p.m. along a cold front. These storms will march from west to east through midnight, arriving in Columbia and Jefferson City between 8 and 10 p.m. Expect damaging wind and hail from a few of these thunderstorms. Not everyone will see severe storms, but everyone has a chance. We will also be warm ahead of the front, as heat builds in under clear afternoon skies, and moisture pools ahead of the front. Temperatures will reach low-to-mid 90s, with feels like numbers closer to triple digits.

EXTENDED: Saturday will bring drier conditions, and slightly cooler temperatures behind the cold front. Expect highs in the high 80s. While some showers may be possible late Saturday evening, better rain chances arrive with a system on Sunday. Chances for rain will exist in the morning, but again in stronger fashion Sunday evening. We will be on the watch for a chance for strong storms, but details are still vague here. Watch the forecast for updates if you have plans Sunday. Next week, starts drier and cooler behind Sunday's cold front. We'll see highs in the low 80s Monday through Tuesday.
