Tracking Sunday’s cold front and the chance for storms it brings

TONIGHT: Mostly dry conditions should continue through the rest of the evening, before more storms Sunday morning. Temperatures in the 80's this evening are expected to cool into the upper 60s.

TOMORROW: Sunday's storm forecast is complex. We'll see showers and storms nearby overnight, and they will have potential to carry over into the region by sunrise. This rain will likely have some influence on the atmosphere, helping suppress the severe threat for a cold front that will be shortly behind it. This cold front will slowly make progress through the region through late morning and early afternoon. As it looks right now, it could make it almost our of mid-MO before developing storms. When it does though, we might see isolated strong storms. This will put the greatest risk of severe weather in our eastern most counties (Gasconade, Montgomery, Audrain) Sunday afternoon. From here to St. Louis during the late afternoon, strong storms will be possible, bringing chances for all types of severe weather, including tornadoes. Still, the threat of strong storms is quite low for the vast majority of mid-Missouri, including Columbia and Jefferson City, during this entire process. Temperatures will again reach for the high 80s.

EXTENDED: We'll be noticeably cooler behind the front, with dry weather on Monday, and temperatures climbing from low 60s, to low 80s through the day. Sunshine and mild weather continue on Tuesday, with highs reaching for only mid-80s. Things are a bit more complicated on Wednesday, as a system approaches, potentially warming us into the upper 80s, but also bringing a chance for storms, some of which may be strong. It's far too early to say whether severe storms are likely, but data is beginning to point to the possibility. The rest of next week looks to stay in the 80s, with at least one more chance for rain into the weekend.
