Tracking heavy rain, heat, and potential for strong storms
TONIGHT: Mostly dry conditions will stick with us through the dinner hour, with mild temperatures. We expect thunderstorms to redevelop later tonight, sometime around midnight. We have issued an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day from 10 p.m. tonight through 10 a.m. tomorrow for flooding. You can read more details in our ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day Blog. An isolated strong storm or two cannot be ruled out, but our greatest concern is for flooding.
TOMORROW: Thunderstorms bringing heavy rain will be ongoing at sunrise, and are expected to wind down by late morning and early afternoon. More thunderstorm development will be possible Wednesday night, and strong to severe storms will be possible. Confidence is low in the chance for severe storms Wednesday night as it is highly conditional on how we recover from clouds and rain earlier in the day. Expect highs in the upper 80s for most, but some near Sedalia, Warsaw, Versailles, and the Lake of the Ozarks will likely reach 90s, and feel like low triple digits. A Heat Advisory is in effect for these counties through Wednesday night.
EXTENDED: Wednesday night into Thursday, the same set up that brought Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning's rain, will bring rain chances just to our east. it's uncertain if any of our eastern counties will get in on this rain, but the overall forecast is trending drier. What will likely work in on Thursday for most, is warmer temperatures. Expect highs in the 80s to 90s, feeling like 90s to low triple digits. The warmest communities will be south of I-70. Friday through Monday, isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible, but confidence is low in timing and placement. We should be close to 90s on Friday, with more reliable cooling in the forecast over the weekend into next week, keeping highs in the 80s.
