Tracking thunderstorms by midweek

TONIGHT: Skies tonight will remain mostly clear, with temperatures falling into the upper 60s by sunrise.

TOMORROW: Some high clouds are likely to filter in by sunrise, as decaying storms to our north approach. Rain is not expected to reach the border, of mid-Missouri, but clouds may stream in overhead. Otherwise, Tuesday will be partly cloudy, and warmer than average. Expect a high in the mid-to-upper 90s, with dewpoints in the 50s. Humidity will be low enough for us to avoid an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day. Some pop up storms are possible in the afternoon, but the vast majority of the day will be dry. A better chance for storms may arrive late Tuesday night into Wednesday.

EXTENDED: Wednesday's storm chance is growing, as confidence increases in a line of storms pushing through the region. Timing of this line is uncertain at the moment, with some guidance suggesting it may arrive as early as sunrise, or possibly closer to the afternoon. Either way, whatever activity generates over Nebraska or Iowa Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, will have a path to travel right into mid-Missouri from north to south. It's path will be paved with favorable ingredients for strong to severe storms. Discussions of an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day are taking place, but we want to see better consistency from model guidance before making any decisions on the matter. Timing of storms will have a big impact on severity, but also on temperatures Wednesday, with those ahead of the storms in the south likely very hot and humid. Our upper level pattern of high pressure over the desert southwest, and low pressure north of the Great Lakes, will keep us in steady northwest flow aloft, bringing daily disturbances that may trigger storm events like what we expect on Wednesday, through the rest of the week. Temperatures are forecast in the 90s through Thursday, potentially dropping into the high 80s by the weekend. Rain chances hang on through Sunday.
