Tracking moisture that may clear just in time for sunset

TODAY: Scattered light showers are hanging on this morning, bringing us another dreary morning. Some of us will see sun this afternoon, but chances are best if you live in the north. Communities like Macon, Moberly, Paris, and Mexico will have the best chance at sunshine at all this afternoon, and therefore warmer temperatures as well. These locations may reach mid-70s. Currently we have Columbia forecast at 70, and places like Jefferson City and Camdenton in the 60s thanks to clouds and drizzle through the day. Also, even if you don't see rain on radar, you may encounter some drizzle, or misty conditions. The rain on radar will largely exit by the noon hour, but some in the south near Camdenton, Vienna, and Rolla will have a chance of drizzle through the late afternoon. This is where folks may not climb out of the low 60s.

TONIGHT: Drier air arrives overnight, and we'll see clearing skies throughout the evening. Many should see clearing enough to view the sunset. Temperatures will fall into the mid-50s by sunrise with a light northwest breeze.

EXTENDED: We'll start sunny, as that northeast breeze shifts to a north breeze around sunrise. This is a weak and dry cold front sliding in from the north. Despite the front, abundant sunshine helps climb us to near 80 for a high. It's another bright day on Thursday, perhaps with a few extra clouds. Still, we'll stay mostly dry, with a high in the low 80s as winds are more southerly. This is until a cold front arrives Friday morning, bringing a wind shift and chances for rain. Rain and thunder is about the extent of what we expect along the front, given little to no instability or storm energy. The weekend benefits as the front clears out moisture, leaving us mild and dry over the weekend.
