Tracking more rain ahead of a dry start to the weekend

TODAY: The forecast yesterday was all about a cold front, and today, that front has become a stationary boundary. It has settled just south of mid-Missouri, allowing for rain to linger, especially over southern sections, overnight. Rain chances will decrease through the morning, as showers and thunderstorms wane into the morning hours. Activity will lift north into mid-Missouri again by late morning, bringing rain chances from south to north, reaching Sedalia, Ashland, and Fulton by early afternoon. Folks along and north of I-70 may remain mostly dry until mid-afternoon. A low pressure will travel along this boundary that's slowly lifting north. This will bring area-wide chances for rain this evening. A soon as 4-5 p.m., we'll start to see rain envelop the region. This light to steady shower activity will persist until the low exits the region overnight. Temperatures suffer, getting stuck in the 40s.

TONIGHT: This means showers linger into the early Saturday morning hours, coming to an end from southwest to northeast. Expect dry conditions by sunrise, with clouds a little slower to clear. Temperatures remain mild overnight, in the 40s.

EXTENDED: A mild start yields a short distance to warmth on Saturday, and despite a northerly breeze, some extra sunshine should be enough to climb us into the 50s. Rain chances return with a quickly moving wave on Sunday. Some showers are possible around sunrise, with another round late in the day. A warmup in between chances is enough to help us reach upper 50s. Some shower chances linger into Monday, but they are slim and we expect temperatures in the mid-50s. A calm day visits us on Tuesday, with highs forecast in the 50s, but more activity arrives midweek. Warmer air brings shower chances on Wednesday, with storms possible on Thursday.
