Tracking cold air and winds that make it feel colder
TODAY: With snow many reports coming in of around two inches or less of snowfall, blowing snow should be kept to a minimum today, despite wind howling from the north at around 20 mph sustained, with gusts as high as 30-35 mph. This keeps our high around 5 degrees, with feels like temperatures near 20 below zero. A few glimpses of sunshine won't be impossible, but overall it's a mostly cloudy day, with the edge of cloud cover just west of us.
TONIGHT: Overnight, that clearing line works over mid-MO, leaving us partly cloudy to mostly sunny at sunrise Saturday. Temperatures will likely find themselves near zero by sunrise.
EXTENDED: Winds slowly relax into Saturday. This and more sun will slowly improve temperatures back into the teens. High pressure arrives Sunday, keeping us sunny, and finally turning winds back from the south. This warms us into the 20s on Sunday, and low 30s by Monday afternoon. On the other side of the high will be a chance for a quickly passing snow shower. Timing places this somewhere around late Christmas night, and early Monday morning. If any, minor accumulations look to be on the table at this time, but keep an eye on the forecast for more as we get closer. We're trending much more mild through the middle of next week, and that should even include above normal temperatures, with 50s possible Wednesday through Thursday.
