Tracking dangerous heat, and slim chances at relief

TODAY: Tuesday is another heat related Weather Alert Day. We have temperatures this afternoon, expected in the high 90's. This partnered with dewpoints still near 70 for some, will result in heat index values close to, if not greater than 105. Some will miss out where there is lesser humidity (near the lake), but almost all are feeling the triple digit heat by late afternoon. There is also a slim chance of showers and storms this afternoon. Model guidance has been varied on this, but just enough instability may be available with sufficient moisture to create a few isolated to scattered pockets of rain south of I-70. TONIGHT: Overnight, things quiet down, but we maintain a slight breeze. Temperatures settle into the mid 70s as high clouds move in from the northwest.

EXTENDED: We are starting Wednesday at least Partly Cloudy and in the mid-70s. Despite clouds, temperatures are still warm Wednesday morning. To what degree exactly depends on thickness of clouds and arrival timing of our next cold front. Likely around late morning for those north of I-70, storms will arrive along a cold front that will slowly be pushing south. This will likely make it to I-70 sometime in the afternoon. As rain falls, air cools, and we see an end to the heat. Still, those furthest south and east will have what is likely another hot and humid day. This front may bring widespread amounts near a half inch or more. By Thursday, showers may be lingering as the front is slow moving, but cooler weather is forecast. High 80s and low 90s look likely for Thursday. Skies clear, and we warm into the weekend. Mostly sunny, with low 90s is the forecast for Friday through Saturday, but another cold front may be on the horizon for Sunday into Monday, bringing more chances for rain.
