Tracking dangerous heat in south-central Missouri with evening storms

Today: The heat index is set to surpass 100 degrees once again in the southern third of Central Missouri with dewpoints into the lower 70's. The northern 2/3's of the viewing areas has seen morning showers and cloud cover enabling cooler temperatures. The afternoon high in Columbia is set to top out at 90 degrees. Scattered storms will begin to form this late afternoon bringing the chance for a few strong to severe isolated storms. Strong winds and isolated hail will be tonight's main threats.

Tonight: Overnight temperatures will dip to the lower 70's with increased chances of scattered storms and showers. The severe threat will stand throughout the overnight hours.

Extended: Showers and storms will stick around Friday morning through mid day as afternoon highs will taper back a tad from what Mid-Missouri has seen recently. Highs will ride the upper 80's into the weekend with dryer conditions set to take place. The start of next week sees above average temperatures once again for Monday before returning back to normal highs the second half of the week.
