Tracking much needed rain for the holiday weekend

TODAY: The dry streak continues, with another day under the sun in mid-Missouri. Blue skies, and highs in the low 90s will make for another picturesque summer day. The warmer than normal temperatures will be a bit more tolerable thanks to dewpoints in the 50s this afternoon.

TONIGHT: Skies stay clear through the evening, with some fair weather clouds arriving early Friday. Temperatures don't fall as far, with winds out of the south. We start Friday near 70.

EXTENDED: More humidity is pushing in from the south by Friday morning. These higher dewpoints will eventually meet up with increased humidity pooling up to the north, ahead of a cold front. The arrival of the cold front looks to be late afternoon and/or early evening for those north of I-70. This will be the best time for thunderstorms, as the front will encounter it's best shot at instability in the atmosphere. Still, wind support aloft, and instability look unorganized, so severe weather looks unlikely. Showers and storms will continue through the night as the front slowly drifts south and stalls overnight. Rain and thunder will remain in the forecast through the day Saturday, with rain being off and on in nature for most. The aforementioned front lifts back north on Sunday, taking rain chances with it. Rain chances on Sunday will be best in the morning, with spotty rain chances remaining for Sunday night and Monday. Monday through Wednesday will see only isolated chances for storms, meaning plenty of dry time. With Friday's temperatures in the 90s, and dewpoints in the high 60s, heat index values will approach 100. Highs stay in the 80s Saturday and Sunday, but more heat and humidity returns for the beginning of next week, making for a steamy 4th of July.
