Tracking a heat wave with little relief

TODAY: Temperatures start incredibly warm this morning; in the upper 70s, with dewpoints in the 70s. This warm and muggy start will give us a head start on a run at triple digits this afternoon. Midday cloud cover, and a spot shower or two may keep temperatures from breaking 100, but upper 90s are likely. If we do hit the forecasted 99 with increasing sunshine this afternoon, temperatures would likely feel like 105+. Either way, strenuous activity this afternoon will be dangerous. A heat advisory is in place area wide through Wednesday evening at 8:00 PM.

TONIGHT:

Temperatures only drop into the upper 70s again by early Tuesday morning, offering little break from the heat and humidity. Skies stay clear overnight, but we stay warm with a steady south breeze.

EXTENDED: The heat looks to subside slowly over the next few days, but not enough to kick the heat advisory until Wednesday. Mostly sunny skies are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs in the mid 90s, and heat index values approaching triple digits both days. Wednesday night into Thursday, a weak front presents a small chance for rain during the overnight hours. Upper level high pressure fights this, keeping heat in the forecast into the weekend. Friday through Sunday looks dry, with high temperatures hanging around in the low 90s. For more on this dangerous heat, read here.
