Tracking rain and storm chances leading into the weekend
TODAY: As clouds continue to overspread the region this morning, showers will start to develop and become more widespread. Rain chances increase through the morning hours before tapering off somewhat this afternoon. Shower chances will remain all day, but a relative lull in precipitation looks to precede our next round focused tonight into Friday morning. Showers and clouds should keep temperatures in the 60s today.
TONIGHT: We'll stay warm tonight, with temperatures not falling out of the 50s through tomorrow morning. As mentioned above, the next push of showers and storms likely comes early Friday morning. This won't present a severe threat, but the potential for that will exist with any storms that develop later Friday afternoon.
EXTENDED: Overall, rain chances become less widespread Friday afternoon and evening, but whatever does develop will have the ingredients available to it to become severe. Right now, it's not incredibly clear if storms will be able to develop, but this will be a focal point of the forecast going forward given the severe potential. Overall, Friday will be warmer with temperatures climbing back into the 70s with more expected dry time in the afternoon. Better chances for widespread storms exists along a cold front that will likely push through early Saturday morning. This will have a lesser severe risk than it's Friday afternoon counterparts, but a severe risk nonetheless. The decreasing instability during the overnight hours will greatly affect the ability of this activity to maintain severe levels. So, we have a window from Friday afternoon to about day break on Saturday to watch for a few stronger storms. Beyond, Saturday night and Sunday looks dry and seasonable, but more rain chances return Monday.
