Tracking storms Tuesday afternoon
TODAY: Skies start this morning mostly cloudy after a break in rainfall from overnight. Skies will try to clear towards the late morning and afternoon. If we can get enough of this clearing, it may help fuel thunderstorms this afternoon. Either way, we will still see thunderstorms beginning this afternoon and persisting through the evening hours. Some of these may be strong storms thanks to that aforementioned sunshine. Still, storms will struggle to intensify thanks to very limited energy available to them. Our most likely severe threat is wind and hail, but there's enough wind shear (or spin) in the atmosphere that a tornado can't be ruled out. While this is worst case scenario, our saving grace is the fact that even if we do see a tornado, the ambient environment will be unsuited to sustain it. Ultimately, widespread severe weather is unlikely, but a severe storm or two cannot be ruled out this afternoon, so it's a good day to pay attention to the forecast and practice your severe weather preparedness mindset.
TONIGHT: Showers and storms will linger into the late evening, but likely come to an end by midnight. Another round of showers will likely enter from the west as the parent low of all of this just sits on top of us. These light showers will be more of a nuisance Wednesday morning, than anything.
EXTENDED: Off and on showers are possible on Wednesday along with cloud cover and chilly temperatures as highs remain in the upper 40s to around 50. Chilly air works in Wednesday night, and any lingering precipitation may fall as flurries through early Thursday morning. No impacts are expected with that as temperatures quickly rise into the mid-upper 40s Thursday. Rain totals will range from about 1-1.5". We can expect a nicer end to the week with more sunshine and highs reaching the low 60s again on Friday, with upper 50s and low 60s for the weekend.
