Tracking warmth and moisture that will fuel showers and storms this weekend

TONIGHT

Friday is shaping up nicely, with highs in the low 70's again this afternoon. With this warmth, comes more moisture in the atmosphere, and that means clouds. Clouds and continued south wind tonight will keep us warm, with lows early Saturday only dipping into the 50's.

SATURDAY

This gives temperatures on Saturday a bump. We won't be able to get temperatures to skyrocket thanks to cloud cover, but we won't need a huge jump to reach mid-70's. Storms will arrive in the evening hours. New information is suggesting that we may see an earlier arrival of a line of thunderstorms, around the dinner hour. Ahead of a cold front, these storms will have a lot of wind support, but little instability and moisture to work with. This keeps overall rain chances hit and miss area wide, and the severe threat low. Still, anything that does develop could bring some straight-line winds along with some lightning and heavy downpours north of I-70. Those will scoot out by Sunday morning, leaving most of the day dry but cooler. Highs will only reach the middle 50’s before more rain chances return Sunday evening.

EXTENDED

Sunday's round looks to be more widespread, lasting into the overnight hours. As cooler air moves in towards Monday morning, that rain could turn into some snow. Right now, we’re not expecting any problems to come of a few wet snowflakes falling at times on Monday, with afternoon temperatures only in the mid to upper 30’s. We’re warming up and drying out on Tuesday. Highs will push into the upper 40’s before reaching the mid to upper 50’s Wednesday and Thursday.
