Tracking an approaching winter storm

TONIGHT

Temperatures are approaching 60 degrees again this morning with a continued stout wind from the south. Clouds will stay with us today as shower chances begin to build this afternoon. Shower chances will turn to heavier rainfall across mid-Missouri. Don't be surprised if you hear a few rumbles of thunder tonight. Late in the evening, temperatures will start cooling as cold air moves in from the north. Expect air temperatures to fall below freezing around midnight, making elevated surfaces slick through the early morning hours. Deteriorating road conditions will lag significantly as it will take some time to cool pavement temperatures after our recent stretch of anomalously warm weather.

THURSDAY

By daylight hours on Thursday, our wintry mix should be making things slick and travel tricky. Closer to noon, we are watching for a changeover to all snow. Snow will begin to taper off towards the evening hours, but not before bringing the potential for accumulating snow.

EXTENDED

Once the snow moves out, we’re bracing for the single digits once again Thursday night into Friday morning. We recover nicely after that cool start, pushing highs into the low 40’s Friday afternoon. We reach the mid to upper 40’s Saturday before cracking 60 on Sunday and Monday. Rain chances will return by Tuesday.
