Tracking another day of intense heat, humidity

TONIGHT: Mostly clear with storms diminishing by sunset. Lows in the mid-70s.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny, hot, and humid with highs in the upper 90s. Heat index up to 100-105.

EXTENDED: Isolated to scattered storms continue through about sunset, and then we'll be dry and muggy the rest of the night. Lows fall into the 70s with sunshine expected once again for Friday. Temperatures remain in the mid-upper 90s with a heat index between 100-105, so the Weather Alert Day continues as well as a heat advisory through 7PM Friday. The forecast has not changed much for the weekend with temperatures staying in the low 90s with a heat index in the upper 90s. Things get more interesting as a cold front approaches from the north on Sunday night, bringing a chance for scattered rain and storms by early Monday. Temperatures look to finally cool to near average in the upper 80s for much of next week with this front hanging around the area, and we could end up cooler across the southern half of the state as Tropical Depression 9 (it could become Tropical Storm Ida by tonight) tracks north from the Gulf shoreline into parts of the mid-south. Right now the track takes it southeast of us, but if it jogs farther northwest early next week, we could end up with more clouds or even a better chance for rain through mid-week. We'll be watching that closely as it could reach hurricane status this weekend and possibly make a Gulf coast landfall by Sunday night or Monday morning.
