Tracking heat and humidity, low storm chances this weekend

TONIGHT: Mostly clear and muggy with highs in the upper 60s to around 70.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny, hot, and humid with highs in the low 90s. Heat index between 95-98.

EXTENDED: It's been a hazy day with that wildfire smoke filtering back in, so we'll likely see that affect the sunset once again. Temperatures warm into the lower 90s tomorrow with a heat index in the upper 90s to around 100. We stay dry throughout the day and much of the evening with the showers and storms tied closely to a front well to our west. However, as this front works into the region, we could see scattered showers and storms as early as Sunday morning and last into the evening. The necessary ingredients for severe weather look to align just to our north, however, just looking at some data this afternoon I wouldn't rule out a stronger storm or two north of I-70 through Sunday night. The main concern would be strong winds and heavy rain if we do see anything more intense. The Storm Prediction Center has a marginal risk area clipping Macon County at this point for Sunday.

As storms exit on Sunday, the jet stream lifts even a bit more north and east, pulling in slightly warmer temperatures and more moisture to prime the atmosphere for some dangerous heat. We'll likely see the heat index between 102-105 on both Monday and Tuesday, prompting a Weather Alert Day for those days for heat. We may even see triple-digit heat indices on Wednesday as well depending on rain chances. We will leave Wednesday out for now given that uncertainty. We'll keep a low-end chance for rain and storms each day through Thursday before we cool back down to near normal in the upper 80s by next Friday.
