Tracking isolated showers and storms through Friday morning

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with spotty showers and storms possible overnight into Friday morning. Lows in the upper 60s.

TOMORROW: Clearing early, becoming mostly sunny and hot. Highs in the upper 80s to around 90 with a heat index between 93-95.

EXTENDED: A weak disturbance rolling through the area will continue to bring a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms through this evening. Severe weather is not expected, but brief downpours will be possible. Clouds gradually clear into Friday morning and a stronger southwest breeze will send temperatures into the upper 80s to around 90 for highs. As dew points creep back up near 70 degrees, the heat index climbs into the low to mid-90s during the day. Saturday starts off warm with temperatures in the 70s in the morning, with highs in the low 90s by afternoon. The heat index will reach between 95-98. Another disturbance in the jet stream will send a front through Mid-Missouri on Saturday night, triggering showers and thunderstorms like after around 8-9 PM across northwest Missouri. Showers and storms track east overnight, bringing measurable rain to much of the area, especially across locations along and north of I-70 where 0.5" to 1" of rain is possible. Right now the better ingredients for severe weather look to stay to our north. Showers and storms exit by mid-morning Sunday, leaving us with another hot and humid day with heat indices approaching 100 degrees. The jet stream stays to our north for at least half of next week, keeping temperatures above average in the low to mid-90s. Heat indices are expected to top 100 degrees Monday and Tuesday before another system brings a chance for rain and storms by Wednesday or Thursday.
