Tracking a chilly Saturday followed by a brief warm-up
TONIGHT: Mostly clear and cloudy with a chance of drizzle by dawn. Lows in the upper 30s.
TOMORROW: Chilly with decreasing clouds and highs in the low 40s.
EXTENDED: Clouds decrease Saturday night into Sunday as our front pushes on to the east. Winds shift back south into Sunday, bringing slightly warmer temperatures and more sunshine to Mid-Missouri. The warming trend continues next week as the jet stream tries to lift north to our west, sending temperatures back into the low to mid-50s with gusty south winds. There could be a few more clouds on Monday as a fast moving clipper system slides by just to our north, but we will likely stay dry with that system. By Wednesday, we'll start a transition to much colder air as a front moves in early in the day. We could see rain to start, followed by a few light snow showers depending on when cold air arrives, but big impacts are currently not expected. Behind the front, frigid arctic air pushes south from Canada, bringing morning temperatures on Christmas Eve into the low teens. Highs next Thursday will be in the upper 20s, with highs near freezing on Christmas Day with sunshine. The following weekend will likely be much warmer as the arctic air mass moves east, getting us back into the low to mid-40s.
