ABC 17 News

ROLLA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Phelps County Sheriff's Department confirmed three people died in a house fire in Rolla Saturday night that required multiple agencies' assistance.

Around 11 p.m. Saturday, Central Communications received a call of a fully involved structure fire in the 10000 block of County Rd. 2120, according to a press release from the Phelps County Sheriff's Department.

Phelps County deputies arrived at the scene and confirmed the home was fully engulfed in flames. They also believed several people were trapped inside, but could not enter the home because of heavy smoke and fire, according to the press release.

An off-duty Phelps County deputy saw a young boy outside the fully engulfed home and cared for the boy until Phelps Health paramedics arrived.

Rolla Rural Fire Department went inside the burning home and determined it unsafe for fire personnel to enter and immediately evacuated.

Firefighters were later able to control the fire and the cause is currently unknown. It is being investigated by the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, Rolla Rural Fire Department, and the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s Office.

ABC 17 News spoke with Rolla Rural Fire Chief Roger Hayes who told us it took about an hour for firefighters to get the flames under control. He also said the home is a total loss.

The identities of three victims have not been released.
