Sedalia police pull woman from burning vehicle

SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A 23-year-old woman was pulled from a burning vehicle by police after a Thursday morning crash in Sedalia, according to a press release from the Sedalia Police Department.

The woman was not named in the release, but police say she is from Grain Valley, Missouri, and was brought to an area hospital for “advanced care."

The release states the woman was trapped inside a burning vehicle that was facing eastbound near the intersection of East Broadway Boulevard and South Brown Avenue. The vehicle hit a light pole and knocked down live power lines into trees, the release says.

The release states after the vehicle stopped, the engine compartment ignited. A motorist saw the fire and tried to put it out when officers arrived, but was unsuccessful, the release states.

Sedalia Police Commander Michael Elwood saw the driver was trapped inside, forced the driver door open, cut away two airbags to and released the woman’s seatbelt. She was unconscious as Elwood removed her from the vehicle, the release states.

Elwood and Officer Alex Stevenson then carried the woman away from the vehicle as it continued to burn, the release states. The Sedalia Fire Department eventually put out the fire, according to the release.
