Jefferson City temporary waste drop-off site to close for the season Sunday

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The temporary yard waste drop-off site in Jefferson City will be closing its gates on Sunday, and planning for the future is on their minds.

The site will be open Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon for city residents only at 708 Ellis Blvd.

At a meeting Tuesday, Jefferson City Public Works members stated they are starting to send information to contractors for bids to manage the new permanent site.

The location of that site is still undecided and it may take some time to get the process going.

"Those will have something to council to consider hopefully as quickly as possible, depending on some of the bids. I would state that depending on if zoning is needed, that could make it a little bit longer than we'd like," said a Public Works Committee member.

The committee has sent bids to interested parties but added that they are looking to branch out to others as well.

"We have sent that out to a list of kind of contractors were aware of that might be interested in. But if you have someone in mind who would like to send that to me, I can further that on or pass that along so they get that information as soon as possible," said Public Works.

ABC 17 News has reached out to see how many bids for the site the city has received and are currently waiting to hear back.

The temporary site opened back in November, and since its opening, the site has received a total of 2,142 load drop-offs, according to data from the city.

The most amount of drop-offs in a single day was 255 in total. Returning users of the site have also been fairly consistent, with the most returning customers coming back 22 times.

After the second week of service, the city re-evaluated its original plan of using its existing city workers due to the site being understaffed. The committee decided to agree on a contract with Troesser Lawn Care to extend hours of operation and heavy traffic in the area due to the site.

The city is looking to have a permanent location from the yard waste drop-off site by the spring of 2024.
