KINGDOM CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Ameren is hoping to connect to a new solar farm in Callaway County.

Union Electric Company d/b/a Ameren Missouri filed an application with the Missouri Public Service Commission seeking a Certificate of Convenience and Necessity to construct, install, own, operate and maintain a new 345 kilovolt switchyard, according to a Tuesday press release.

Show Me State Solar, LLC wants to build a 250-megawatt solar generation facility near Kingdom City, northwest of the Interstate 70 and Highway 54 interchange. According to the application, Ameren Missouri entered into an agreement last year to connect with the solar yard. Ameren's plan will be the subject of the comment period.

The Public Service Commission first needs to approve the plan to hook it up to the electric grid.

The commission is asking for anyone wanting to participate in the case to apply to do so by Feb. 14. Ameren Missouri serves approximately 1.29 million electric customers.
