Three charged after bullet grazes child’s foot during an alleged drug deal in Sedalia on Friday

SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Three people are facing multiple charges after an alleged drug deal that went bad resulted in a 23-month-old boy with a bullet grazing his foot in Sedalia on Friday evening.

James Lowe, Angel Escobar and Aja Vannoy are all facing charges in connection with the shooting.

A Pettis County prosecutor has charged Vannoy and Escobar with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and first-degree robbery. Lowe is charged with possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a weapon.

According to a probable cause statement, Sedalia police were called to Housel Park after reports of two vehicles speeding away and shots being fired.

Police say that Escobar, Vannoy, Lowe and a fourth person went to Housel Park to steal marijuana during a drug deal, according to a probable cause statement. Vannoy told police that they didn't have enough money so they used a white envelope and stuffed it with paper to make it feel fuller.

Police say then the deal was called off and Lowe and the other person got out and pistol-whipped one victim and then as they got away, Lowe and the other man shot at the vehicle with a handgun and an AR-15.

The shooting damaged the vehicle and hit the boy in the foot.

Vannoy and Escobar are being held on $30,000 cash/surety bond at the Pettis County Jail. Lowe was jailed without bond.

All three have a hearing scheduled for July 26.

Lowe, Vannoy nor Escobar have a defense attorney listed, according to online court records.
