Deputies searching for man charged with first-degree murder after Columbia shooting
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Boone County Prosecutor's Office has charged a Columbia man in connection with a deadly shooting and issued a warrant for his arrest.
Mark Achterberg was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Court documents say deputies were called to a home around 3:30 Monday afternoon off North Kent Drive in Columbia.
According to the Boone County Sheriff's Office, deputies originally responded to a report of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Deputies found the victim, Justin W. Stidham, 32, who had been shot but was still responsive.
Stidham reportedly told deputies that "Mark" had shot him.
Stidham was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Deputies interviewed a neighbor who said that Achterberg threatened the victim on Sunday, saying he would shoot him for allegedly stealing his truck.
Court documents say surveillance video shows Achterberg leaving home around the time of the shooting.
The court ordered Achterberg be held without bond upon his arrest.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office continues to look for Mark Achterberg, who was last known to be driving a red or maroon Ram pickup with unknown registration. Achterberg has not been arrested and his whereabouts are currently unknown.
Relatives close to Achterberg say he could be on drugs, armed and dangerous.
They say he could already be on his way to Texas or Iowa.
Police say if you see him, don't approach him, just call the local authorities.
