Pedestrian hit on Highway 40 in Boone County

Missouri state troopers responded to a pedestrian crash on Highway 40 Sunday night, April 25, 2021.

UPDATE:

The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the victim as 40 year old Brandon Inman of Parsons, Tenn.

The crash report says Inman suffered serious injuries in the crash.

ORIGINAL:

One person is in the hospital after a vehicle hit them near the Midway Travel Plaza Sunday night around 9 p.m.

Cpl. Kyle Green with the Missouri State Highway Patrol tells ABC 17 News a vehicle hit a pedestrian on Highway 40 near West Cunningham Drive. Green said the person was taken to the hospital, but did not know how badly they were hurt.

ABC 17 News crews saw troopers investigating Sunday around 9:30 p.m. News crews saw debris in the road including what looked to be a backpack.

"He had quite a bit of stuff with him when he got hit," Trooper March said. "Police were cleaning up his belongings in the road."

Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper Nick March with Troop F in Boone County said the preliminary investigation revealed the individual hit by the vehicle got off the bus and walked into traffic.

"Our report is he was walking really slow across the road and somebody didn't see him," said Trooper March.

Trooper March told crews an update on the incident should be released before midnight and "from what [he] understands, [the injuries of the individual hit] are probably serious injuries."
