Iberia man arrested and charged with sexual assault after an incident at Jefferson City hotel Tuesday

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

An Iberia man faces multiple charges after allegedly kidnapping and raping a woman Tuesday.

According to court documents, David Lee is accused of luring the 19-year-old victim to a hotel on the 1300 block of Jefferson Street and raping her, then stopping the victim from calling for help.

The victim told Jefferson City police that she saw Lee watching her while she was at the Jefferson City Public Library. Lee then started a conversation with her, according to court documents. The victim told police she was afraid of the situation but was scared of continuing to refuse Lee.

The victim told police that she texted a friend for help but the friend didn't get it in time. Lee then took the phone from the victim according to court documents.

According to court documents, Lee then sexually assaulted the victim. The victim told police she was "in fear for her life and was too afraid to fight Lee."

The victim said Lee kept taking the phone from her, stopping her from calling for help or 911.

Once away, the victim notified police of what happened. Jefferson City police identified Lee from his room registration and clothes the victim described.

Lee talked with the police after being read his Miranda rights and told the police the sex he believed was consensual, according to court documents.

Lee is a registered sex offender. He was convicted of attempted rape of a 14-year-old girl in Jackson County. In 1994, Lee was convicted of kidnapping a 9-year-old in 1994 in Jackson County.

Lee is charged with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree sodomy or attempted sodomy and first-degree rape or attempted rape.

Lee was denied bond due to being a danger to the community, according to online court documents.
