Cardinals secure second series win of 2025 season in shutout fashion

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)
The St. Louis Cardinals rode the arm of starter Matthew Liberatore to a 7-0 shutout win over Philadelphia Phillies in rubber match action, on Sunday. With the win, the Red Birds improved to 7-8 in 2025.
Liberatore only allowed three hits through six shutout innings at Busch Stadium. The left-hander matched his season-high with seven strikeouts against Philadelphia, while he improved to 1-1 on the hill this year.
The STL offense backed up Liberatore's stellar outing, as well.
Wilson Contreras and Jordan Walker both homered in the seven-run win over the Phillies. Contreras' home run, which was his first of the season, gave St. Louis a 2-0 lead in fourth inning. After that, the birds on the bat never looked back.
Nolan Arenado and Nolan Gorman each brought home runs in the sixth inning, while Yohel Pozo scored on a wild pitch in the seventh. With that five-run lead in hand, Walker belted his second home run of the year, a two-run shot, for the cherry on top of a St. Louis win.
Up next - the Cardinals will continue their homestand. STL will host the Houston Astros for a three-game set, beginning on Monday, April 14. First pitch in game one is set for 6:45 p.m.
