Blues beat Penguins, match franchise’s longest winning streak

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Blues have tied their longest winning streak in franchise history.
St. Louis (42-28-7) held off a late surge from Pittsburgh (30-34-12) to earn a 5-4 win in overtime, joining the 2019 Stanley Cup Champions as the franchise's only teams to record 11 straight victories.
Following Thursday's win, head coach Jim Montgomery's team sits in the Western Conference's top wild card spot, holding a two-point lead over the Minnesota Wild.
While the Penguins posted the only goal of the opening period, the Blues skated to the front after the first intermission. St. Louis outscored Pittsburgh 3-1 in the second period, courtesy of goals from Jake Neighbours, Pavel Buchnevich (16) and Jordan Kyrou (33)
Then, the momentum stretched into the beginning of the third period. Neighbours (21) tallied his game-best second goal of the contest to push the team's lead to 4-2 with 14 minutes left in regulation.
However, Pittsburgh rallied from behind in the final 10 minutes to force overtime. First, Rickard Rakell capitalized on a power play opportunity to make it a one-goal game. Then, Rutger McGroarty banked in the game-tying goal off the post with less than 30 seconds remaining before overtime.
St. Louis did not let its chance to cement its name in the franchise history books slip away, though. Robert Thomas (20) buried the game-winner with an open slap shot in a power play situation to keep the team's winning streak alive.
Joel Hofer served as the St. Louis goaltender in this contest, finishing 24-for-28 in save opportunities.
Up next - The Blues will hunt for history on their home ice. St. Louis faces Colorado for a franchise record 12 consecutive wins on Saturday, April 5 at 6 p.m. inside the Enterprise Center.
