Parson orders Capitol dome to light up red and gold for Chiefs’ Super Bowl appearance
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Gov. Mike Parson has ordered the Missouri Capitol dome to shine red and gold in celebration of the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl LVII appearance, according to a press release from his office.
The dome will be lit red and gold through Sunday.
The Chiefs will take on the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl LVII in Arizona, which will mark the Chiefs' third Super Bowl appearance in four years. Kansas City last won the title for the 2019 season. It was also announced on Thursday that quarterback Patrick Mahomes earned MVP honors.
"On this Red Friday, this 57th Governor is celebrating our Kansas City Chiefs all the way through Super Bowl 57," Parson said in a press release. "The Kansas City Chiefs are Missouri's team, and our State Capitol will shine bright in red and gold as this state and millions of fans across the Kingdom cheer them on this weekend. The Chiefs have made us proud time and time again, and we know this weekend against the Philadelphia Eagles will be no exception."
Parson and first lady Teresa Parson plan to meet with Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro prior to Sunday's game to make their "friendly wager, which was announced on social media earlier this week. In a video on social media, Parson said the wager would include state of the losing team to fly a flag of the winning team.
