Royals avoid sweep by Guardians with late offensive spark in extras

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Kansas City Royals avoided the home sweep against the Cleveland Guardians after a late rally secured a 4-3 victory in extra innings.

Thursday's game marked the halfway point in the season. Right now, KC sits 23-58, 35 games below .500.

The Royals offense struggled from the bat before finally getting on the board in the eighth inning to force the finale to extras. In the top of the tenth, Cleveland scored one, but with two on in the bottom of the frame, Freddy Fermin knocked a double to walk it off.

The eighth inning runs were drove in by Nick Pratto and Edward Olivares. On the mound, Zack Greinke went six innings allowing just two runs on 11 total hits.

Up next, the home stand continues for the Royals with a three-game series against the Dodgers starting Friday at 7:10 p.m.
