Cardinals complete sweep over Guardians in shutout fashion

CLEVELAND, Ohio (KMIZ)
St. Louis didn't give Cleveland a glimmer of hope in Sunday's series finale. The Cardinals shutout the Guardians 7-0 to secure the team's sixth sweep of the 2025 season.
The win came courtesy of another big outing at the plate for skipper Oli Marmol's team. Nolan Gorman continued his tear at the dish with a monster of a home run, which went 428-feet over the wall, in the first inning to get the Red Birds up by three runs out of the gates. From there, the bats stayed quiet until the final three innings. That's when Victor Scott II knocked out his fourth dinger of the year in the seventh, which was followed up by a sacrifice fly from Pedro Pages and an RBI single off the bat of Garrett Hampson in the eighth.
Over the course of the last 13 games, St. Louis has plated 75 runs. The Cardinals are sixth in all of major league baseball in runs batted in this season, trailing only the Yankees, Tigers, Diamondbacks, Cubs and Dodgers.
Starting pitcher Matthew Liberatore complimented a strong outing at the plate with a stellar outing on the hill. After throwing a shutout for 6.0 innings and only allowing three hits, while fanning five batters, he won his career-best third start of the year.
With the victory, the Cardinals sit 2.5 games out of first place in the National League Central standings. STL only trails the Brewers and the first-place Cubs.
Up next - St. Louis will continue its road swing and head up to Pittsburgh to meet the Pirates. First pitch on Monday, June 30 is set for 5:40 p.m.
