Mizzou women’s basketball bounces back, secures 17-point win over Washington State

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

After falling to Troy on Thursday, Mizzou Women's basketball rebounded with a win against the Cougars.

Head coach Kellie Harper's squad travelled to Kissimmee Florida, on Sunday for the WBCA showcase, where they defeated Washington State (0-6) 71-54.

The Tigers (5-2) trailed for a total of 72 seconds, getting behind 2-0 in the opening minutes. A three from Chloe Sotell gave them the lead 3-2, and M-U never looked back. They built on it throughout the first quarter, ending the frame on an 11-4 run.

Their largest lead of the day was 17 points, which was maintained throughout most of the game. The Cougars threatened Mizzou out of the second quarter, shrinking the gap to three, but buckets from Grace Slaughter and Shannon Dowell opened up the scoring, and continued to add to it throughout the rest of the game.

Dowell was the team's leading scorer and picked up her third double-double of the year with 20 points and 10 rebounds. This was also her third consecutive game scoring 20 or more points.

Jayla Smith was behind her with 16 off the bench, going 6-7 from the field. Grace Slaughter and Jordana Reisma also ended the day in double figures.

Up Next - The Tigers will travel to Fort Myers, Florida, for the Fort Myers Tip-Off. Their first game is against Bradley, which is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 28, at 12:30 p.m.
