Dembele’s triple-double not enough to push Mizzou past Auburn

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Despite Mama Dembele's historic performance at Mizzou Arena on Sunday afternoon, the Tigers fell short of snapping its losing skid. Dembele finished the game with the program's first triple-double since 2011, but Mizzou Women's Basketball lost 70-59 to Auburn.

Mizzou's senior guard posted a team-high 15 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in this contest. The last Tiger to post a triple-double was Christine Flores, who achieved that feat against Eastern Illinois back in December of 2011.

Auburn started this contest on a 9-0 scoring run, which created a deficit Robin Pingeton's crew was never quite able to overcome. Mizzou managed to tie the game 48-48 on a three-pointer from Abbey Schreacke with 1:13 left in the third quarter, but Auburn responded with a critical 15-0 scoring run to put the game away.

Four Tigers scored in double figures, including Dembele (15 points), Schreacke (11 points), Ashton Judd (14 points) and Grace Slaughter (12 points). Mizzou finished the game shooting 40% from the field and 37% from beyond the arc. Pingeton's group forced 17 takeaways but committed 22 turnovers of its own. While Auburn turned those takeaways into 24 points, Mizzou only managed to score 9 points off its turnovers.

Up next - Mizzou is getting set for a two-game road trip, starting next Sunday. The Tigers will look to end their current six-game losing streak with a matchup in Fayetteville against Arkansas on Feb. 18 with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
