Mizzou tops Georgia, extends winning streak to eight straight games
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou and Kentucky remain locked at the top of the SEC volleyball standings. The Tigers (17-5) kicked off their three-game homestand with a four-set win over Georgia (9-12) at the Hearnes Center on Wednesday night.
MU posted its eighth consecutive win, maintaining the longest winning streak in the conference.
Dawn Sullivan's squad cruised through the first two sets, winning them both 25-18 and 25-12 respectively. However, Mizzou fell short of completing the sweep, losing a back-and-forth battle in the third set 28-26. The Tigers bounced back brilliantly in the fourth and final set, though, defeating the Bulldogs by an eight-point margin to clinch the win.
Four different Tigers posted at least 10 kills in the contest, led by Mychael Vernon with 20 kills. Jordan Iliff ended the match close behind Vernon, recording 18 kills and adding 12 digs.
MU's defensive effort was fueled by Maya Sands, who ended the night with 18 digs. Collectively, three different players posted double-digit digs for the Tigers, and the team outperformed Georgia in both kills (68-42) and digs (58-40) by a wide margin on Wednesday night.
