Tiger softball completes perfect weekend at Mizzou Bye-Week Series

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Head coach Larissa Anderson and company lead Mizzou to a perfect 4-0 weekend, capped off by a double header sweep.

Saturday's first game was a rematch versus South Dakota. Mizzou clearly had not lost a step after winning both of Friday's games, as the team got onto the board in the first with Stefania Abruscato's first home run of the year. Freshman Sidney Forrester followed suit sending one over the wall in the bottom of the second, as Mizzou was already up 6-0 heading into the third.

Another trio of runs came in to score in the bottom half with an Abby Carr solo shot, and a two-RBI double by Addy Waits. Marissa McCann was equally impressive in the circle, throwing five scoreless innings with five strikeouts and giving up just one hit, as the Tigers took a run rule win over the Coyote's 9-0.

The weekends final game versus Iowa State was much closer, but started the same way as the previous one. Abby Carr opened the scoring with a three-RBI double, and Madison Uptegrove brought her home later that inning to get a 4-0 lead.

The Cyclones managed to rally back and tie the game, at four a piece, but Abby Carr stepped into the circle to hold them off. While playing both ways, the true freshman allowed just three hits and one earned run with five strikeouts to keep the visitors at bay.

Addy Waits got the go ahead run in the fifth, and Carr added another insurance run for herself with an RBI single to center field to make it a 6-4 ballgame. She defended that lead on the defensive end, securing the team's fourth win of the weekend.

Up Next - Mizzou is set for another double-header, this time in Champaign, Ill. where they'll face the Fighting Illini. First pitch for game one is set for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18.
