Mizzou softball throttles UT-Martin in run rule victory

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Tigers got back into the win column after a dominant showing against UT-Martin, winning 8-0 after just five innings.

After being swept on the road in a close series against Florida, Mizzou returned home to take on the Skyhawks in the team's second midweek contest of the year.

Cierra Harrison set the tone early in the circle. The righty picked up two strikeouts to help retire the first three batters of UT-Martin's lineup.

Mizzou got onto the board fist after Stefania Abruscato crushed an RBI double in just the second at bat of the game. Abby Hay would eventually bring another run in later in the first to get out to a 2-0 lead.

The second inning was just as productive on both sides of the ball. The Tigers brought in three more runs with a pair of RBI singles from Addy Waits and Sidney Forrester. Abruscato brought in the final run of the inning with her second RBI double in as many innings.

Abby Carr opened the scoring again in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly, and Sophie Smith would bring in runs seven and eight on a double to right centerfield, getting Mizzou up 8-0.

Harrison kept the Skyhawks at bay, with another 1-2-3 inning in the top of the fifth to end the game. She allowed just three hits all day with six total strikeouts, and no runs.

Up Next - The Tigers will take on Minnesota back at home during the Mizzou Bye-Week Series. First pitch against the Golden Gophers is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday, March 13.
