Mizzou adds former North Texas assistant to coaching staff

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Head Coach Larissa Anderson has hired a defensive-minded assistant to her staff.

Mizzou Softball announced that former North Texas assistant coach Jason Gwyn will be joining the program's coaching staff.

"We're thrilled to welcome Jason Gwyn to our coaching staff as an assistant coach," Anderson said in Wednesday's press release. "Jason brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the defensive side of the ball, and we're excited for the energy and insight he'll bring to that unit. In addition to his work with the defense, he'll serve as our recruiting coordinator, a role we're confident he'll thrive in, thanks to his outstanding connections and deep ties within the recruiting community. He's a tremendous asset to our program, and we're excited for what the future holds."

Gwyn spent the last four seasons at North Texas where he was responsible for coaching infielders, situational execution and defensive alignment while also serving as the Mean Green's recruiting coordinator. The Texas Tech graduate helped guide North Texas to a 140-83 overall record during his tenure, including a 2022 Conference USA Tournament Championship and the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.

Before that, Gwyn coached at the high school level and internationally. He was the head coach at Hebron High School (2017-21) and Little Elm High School (2016). Gwyn also coached three different teams in Austria (2008).

The Tigers will be hunting for a bounce back season in 2026, following their first under .500 campaign (25-31) since 2006.
