Mizzou ends Mary Nutter Classic with loss to Oregon

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. (KMIZ)
No. 22 Mizzou Softball has lost three of five games at back-to-back tournaments.
The Tigers (8-8) dropped its Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic finale with No. 19 Oregon (15-1), suffering an 11-3 loss at the Big League Dreams Complex in California.
The Ducks scored eight unanswered runs in the first three frames, courtesy of four home runs and two singles. Oregon's four home runs led to an early exit for Cierra Harrison, who allowed four earned runs on four hits in less than three innings of work.
Kara Daly got three of those eight runs back with a three-run home run in the fifth frame. The Jefferson City graduate was one of five players who recorded one hit for the Tigers, including Claire Cahalan, Madison Walker, Saniya Hill and Sophie Smith. MU struck out 13 times in the contest.
However, Oregon added to its five-run lead in the final frame with its fifth home run of the contest, marking Rylee McCoy's second blast of the day.
Marissa McCann pitched 3.1 innings out of the bullpen, allowing four earned runs on two hits and three walks. Taylor Pannell was also charged with an earned run during her appearance in the seventh inning.
Up next - MU travels to Wichita for its fourth tournament of non-conference action. The Tigers begin the Shocker Invite with a doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 28 against No. 13 Oklahoma State and Wichita State, starting at 3 p.m.
