Mizzou shuts out UMKC, picks up 18th win ahead of home opener

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

No. 12 Mizzou Softball will be 18-2 when the team returns to Columbia for Friday's home opener. Larissa Anderson's crew cruised to a 3-0 win over UMKC on Wednesday evening, behind a great performance from Cierra Harrison in the circle.

Harrison pitched a complete game shutout allowing just two hits and striking out a career-high 10 batters over seven innings of work. The sophomore right-hander has a 1.27 ERA this season and has given up just eight earned runs over 44 total innings.

Besides a three-run sixth inning, it was a quiet day for the Tiger offense. Mizzou posted three of its five hits in that frame, including an RBI single from Julia Crenshaw and a two-run home run from Maddie Gallagher. That two-run shot was Gallagher's first home run of the season.

Up next - The Tigers will welcome No. 25 Auburn to Mizzou Softball Stadium for a three-game series to kick off SEC play. First pitch for Mizzou's first home game of the season is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday, March 8.
