Mizzou picked to finish 11th in SEC, pair of seniors named to Preseason All-SEC team
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The SEC has unveiled the results of its annual preseason poll for the upcoming 2024 softball season. Mizzou seniors Jenna Laird and Alex Honnold were both Preseason All-SEC team selections, and the Tigers were voted to finish 11th in the SEC by the conference's head coaches.
Honnold put together her best season in a Tiger uniform in 2023. The Tiger outfielder recorded career-highs in batting average (.396), home runs (14), RBIs (49) and stolen bases (20) last season.
Laird is also coming off a solid 2023 season. The Tiger shortstop posted a .354 batting average with 30 RBIs and a career-high 30 stolen bases last year. This is the third consecutive season Laird has earned Preseason All-SEC honors.
Mizzou finished 13th in the SEC in 2023 with a 7-17 conference record but did make its 16th straight NCAA regional appearance last season. This season, the league's head coaches expect the Tigers to make the jump to 11th in the SEC based on Wednesday's announcement.
Larissa Anderson's crew is scheduled to begin its 2024 season at the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Florida. Mizzou is set to play Utah in its first game of the season on Friday, Feb. 9 at 3 p.m.
