Mizzou blanked by undefeated Illinois, suffers third loss in four games

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Illinois Soccer has claimed Braggin' Rights over Mizzou for the 2025 season.

The Tigers (2-3-1) outshot the Fighting Illini (6-0-0) but were unable to connect with the back of the net, dropping Thursday's game 2-0. With this defeat, Mizzou has lost three of its last four contests.

After holding Illinois scoreless in the first half, the Fighting Illini rallied to score two goals early in the second half. Lia Howard opened the scoring in the 46th minute, followed by a second goal from Emma Yee at the 59-minute mark.

Offensively, MU had eight shots on goal, which was double as many as Illinois. The Tigers also outshot the Fighting Illini by an 11-6 margin but still suffered their third defeat of the season.

Kate Phillips finished the game 2-for-4 in save opportunities while Izzy Lee pitched a clean sheet, going 8-for-8 in save chances.

Up next - Mizzou resumes its four-game homestand with an in-state showdown against UMKC, which is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m.
