Mizzou center Trent Burns set to miss time after foot surgery
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou Men's Basketball will be without Trent Burns for 8-12 weeks amid its offseason preparation.
MU announced that Burns underwent successful foot surgery on Tuesday to repair a stress reaction in his right foot, similar to last year's injury which costed him the entirety of his true freshman season.
He will be sidelined for the next six weeks, and then, the team will follow its return-to-play protocol to determine a precise timeline for his return to the basketball court. Collectively, it's expected to take 8-12 weeks for a full recovery.
“After a successful spring and early summer practice window, Trent had an injury to his foot flare up,” head coach Dennis Gates said in a press release. “We all decided that surgery was the best option for his uninterrupted contributions this season. His health is our top priority, and we know this will only be a small disruption in a great basketball career. We saw in the spring and summer how much of an impact he can have with our program, and we look forward to his return to the court during our non-conference season.”
The 7-foot-5 center was ranked as highly as a top-75 recruit in the nation (Rivals) out of high school. Burns averaged 14 points, seven rebounds and three blocks per game at Good Vision Academy before taking his talents to Mizzou.
