Mizzou quarterback selected as Campbell Trophy semifinalist
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou quarterback Brady Cook is among the record-breaking 203 semifinalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy. The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame (NFF) named the semifinalists for the premier scholar-athlete award on Wednesday, which surpassed last year's record 201 nominees.
At the conclusion of the 2024 season, the honor will be awarded to the college football player who has the best combination of academics, community service and on-field performance. The Campbell Trophy is considered the "Academic Heisman" award.
All candidates must be a graduate student, who have already earned a degree, or a senior, playing in their final year of eligibility. All nominees also must have at least a 3.2 GPA, outstanding football ability as a first-team player and demonstrate strong leadership and citizenship.
“These 203 semifinalists reflect not only exceptional academic and athletic talent but also the deep-rooted leadership that shows a commitment to excellence in all aspects of their lives, which is learned on the gridiron,” NFF Chairman Archie Manning said in Wednesday's press release. “The Campbell Trophy continues to represent the pinnacle of what it means to be a scholar-athlete, and this year's candidates exemplify how football builds future leaders who will undoubtedly shape tomorrow's world.”
Through the first four games of the young season, Cook has completed 92 of his 134 passes for 946 yards and four touchdowns. Mizzou's graduate quarterback has also rushed for nearly 100 yards and found the end zone four times on the ground.
The finalists for the 2024 Campbell Trophy will be announced on Oct. 23.
