Mizzou wide receivers thrive on unit’s mindset and talent

Mizzou's wide receiver room features plenty of continuity, following a Cotton Bowl championship season.

The unit is returning its top six players from last season and is entering its second year with Kirby Moore as offensive coordinator, its third season under wide receivers coach Jacob Peeler and its final season with Brady Cook at quarterback.

The numbers speak volumes of the talent in that room this season. As a group, Mizzou's wide receivers recorded nearly 200 catches, nearly 2,900 receiving yards and nearly 20 touchdowns in 2023. However, it's not just the stats that have built this group into one of the most exciting units in college football, it's also its mentality.

"Obviously, playing receiver, you all want the ball, but there's only one to go around on each play. I think that's the biggest thing that last year's team was able to do was just, down the stretch, play unselfish football," Peeler said. "That's the challenge going into this season is keeping that same mindset and rebuilding off of that. Whether that's perimeter blocking, whether that's playing special teams and just accepting their role."
