Burden III named preseason All-SEC, Mizzou picked to finish No. 6 in league media poll

DALLAS, Texas (KMIZ)

Following the conclusion of SEC Media Days, the league released the results of its annual preseason media poll for the 2024 season. Luther Burden III was listed as a preseason First-Team All-SEC selection while the team was predicted to finish No. 6 in the new 16-team SEC.

Burden III is Mizzou's lone representative on the conference's three preseason All-SEC teams. This is the St. Louis native's first preseason All-SEC selection of his career, earning the recognition after posting 86 catches for 1,212 receiving yards and nine touchdowns last season. Brady Cook's top receiving target led the Tigers in receptions, receiving yards and touchdown catches in 2023.

Eli Drinkwitz's crew is projected to finish behind only Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss, and LSU in the conference standings next season, which will not feature divisions for the first time since 1991.

These seven schools earned first place votes from media members in this year's poll: Georgia (165), Texas (27), Alabama (12), Ole Miss (4), Vanderbilt (2), LSU (2) and South Carolina (1).

The Tigers are aiming to build off its 2023 Cotton Bowl championship and first 11-win campaign in nearly a decade this upcoming season. Mizzou's new campaign kicks off at Faurot Field on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. against Murray State.
