Mizzou wins fifth straight Mayor’s Cup, improves record to 7-1
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou cruised past SEC rival South Carolina 34-12 on homecoming to capture the Mayor's Cup for the fifth consecutive season. The Tigers have now won two straight games and hold a 7-1 record this season.

Saturday's homecoming game was played in front of a third consecutive sell-out crowd at Faurot Field. 62,621 fans was the official attendance for Mizzou's conference showdown against South Carolina.
Brady Cook and the Tiger offense built a big lead to start the game. After going three-and-out on its first possession, Mizzou scored on its next four drives.

The Tigers scored their first points of the game on a 42-yard touchdown connection from Cook to Luther Burden. That was Burden's sixth touchdown catch of the season.
On Mizzou's next drive, the Tigers took advantage of some good field position to take a 14-0 lead in the opening quarter. Mizzou scored a touchdown on seven plays, capped off by a 10-yard touchdown run by Cody Schrader. He exceeded the 100-yard rushing mark in the first half.

Mizzou's offense kept the momentum going on its next possession, scoring a touchdown for the third consecutive drive. Cook took a designed quarterback run into the end zone for a 17-yard score to give the Tigers a 21-0 lead.
Harrison Mevis added a 21-yard field goal on the next drive to extend Mizzou's lead to 24-0, but South Carolina managed to kick a field goal of their own before halftime. Mitch Jeter drilled a 51-yard field goal with 31 seconds left in the first half to cut South Carolina's deficit to 24-3.
The Tiger defense held the Gamecocks to just 73 total yards in the first half and recorded three sacks.

Despite the strong first half performance, the Tigers narrowly outscored the Gamecocks 10-9 in the second half. Jeter kicked three more field goals after halftime while Mizzou scored its 10 second half points on a 53-yard field goal by Mevis and an 11-yard touchdown run by Schrader, his second score of the evening.
Cook finished the game with 198 passing yards and one touchdown through the air. The Tiger quarterback also ran for 64 yards and scored a touchdown on the ground. However, Cook only completed 14 of his 24 throws.
Schrader posted a season-high 159 rushing yards in the game on 26 carries, including two touchdowns.
Burden had four receptions for 90 receiving yards and also scored one touchdown.
Up next - Eli Drinkwitz's crew has its bye week, so the Tigers will not play another opponent until the month of November. Mizzou will have an extra week to prepare for its game against No. 1 Georgia on the road. The kickoff time for the Tigers' matchup with the Bulldogs on Nov. 4 at Sanford Stadium has not been announced yet.
